Superintendent's Message

Welcome to the Scott Valley Unified School District website.

Our district is committed to the well-being and education of our students and staff members.  We believe the community we serve directly influences our success.  The support our families exhibit toward our students and schools is exceptional.  We continually work together to ensure high levels of learning for all students.

Scott Valley Unified School District is in its 10th school year as a unified school district.  The school district was formed from four districts including Fort Jones Union Elementary, Etna Union Elementary, Quartz Valley Elementary School and Etna Union High School.

Scott Valley Unified is composed of six schools including two K-5 elementary schools (Etna Elementary and Fort Jones Elementary) a 6-8 junior high (Scott Valley Junior High) a 9-12 high school (Etna High) and two alternative education programs including a continuation school (Scott River High) and a community day school (Scott Valley CDS).  Our school district has two excellent preschool programs and independent study located at each of our elementary schools in addition to a transitional kindergarten program which is housed at Etna Elementary.  We operate our adult education pathways program and secondary independent study program from our campus at Scott River High.

Scott Valley Unified has five departments that take care of all of the non-instructional and support services required by the school district.
These departments include:

  • District Office (superintendent’s office, human resource, finance and grant writing)
  • Maintenance and Operations (grounds, custodial and construction)
  • Transportation (home to school, field trips and athletics)
  • Food Service (operating three kitchens at EHS, EES and FJES)
  • Information Technology (network, devices and software; housed at Etna High School)

We are committed to collaborative decision making and taking input from our employees.  The district ensures receiving input from staff and explaining its decisions through five committees in addition to district board meetings and school site council meetings.  These committees include:

  • District Attendance Review Team
  • Technology
  • Curriculum/Professional Development
  • Wellness
  • Safety
  • Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)

We look forward to serving your family and ensuring an excellent education for your children.  Please do not hesitate to contact us.  We appreciate the continued support of our community and the families we serve.
